Our Alaskan Voyages
Adventurer Voyage
Due to requests for a more vigorous and physical adventure experience in the vast wilderness landscape of Prince William Sound, we offer the "Adventurer Voyage". If you are the person who likes to reach the mountain top, take long treks or hikes, and embrace the physical challenge of an outdoor experience, this trip is for you! Like all of our voyages, there is plenty of wildlife viewing and sightseeing packed into each day as well. Visits to our favorite locations are laced throughout the itinerary, and opportunities to traverse meadows and ridges with extended forays in kayaks as well, give ample activity for the adventure seeker.
Birding - Wildlife - Photo Voyage
The "The Birding, Wildlife & Photo Voyage" offers outstanding bird watching, wildlife viewing and photo opportunities throughout Prince William Sound. The land portion of the trip includes three days focused around the Copper River Delta Shorebird Festival in Cordova. The Delta serves as a critical refueling station for the migratory birds of the Western Hemisphere. The remainder of the trip is spent on the waters of Prince William Sound aboard the Discovery viewing abundant bird and marine life, sightseeing, glacier viewing, hiking, kayaking, etc.
Classic Discovery Voyage
The "Classic Discovery Voyage" samples the natural wonders of Prince William Sound. Years of travel and exploration in the Sound have resulted in our list of "favorite" places, and we target these spots. Voyages may be 5-7 days, based on the specific trip. Longer trips will linger a little more and explore a little deeper. Wildflower meadows, rainforest trails, calving glaciers, whale watching, photography, shore side hikes, kayaking, sightseeing and a whole lot more await you on this classic encounter with the world-class beauty of Prince William Sound.
Grand Alaska Journey
The "Grand Alaska Journey", guided by naturalist and photographer Hugh Rose, includes the best of Alaska's scenery and wildlife. The journey will highlight Alaska's marine and terrestrial wildlife including the seals, sea lions, sea otters, whales, and bird life of marine ecosystem along with the grizzly bears, dall sheep, caribou, moose and other mega fauna of the interior boreal forest and tundra landscape. Hikes and treks across the varied environments will yield magnificent views of Alaska's wilderness landscape. The journey begins in Anchorage and the nearby world-famous Prince William Sound on a five day voyage aboard the Discovery. From there, travel by road into Alaska's interior for an intimate three-day tour of Denali National Park, overnighting deep into park at a comfortable lodge. The trip concludes in Fairbanks, Alaska's "Golden Heart City".
Hike and Kayak Voyage
The "Hike and Kayak Voyage" is much like the Classic Discovery but places more emphasis on physical activities, specifically hiking and kayaking. The Sound's bays, coves and quiet waterways are as endless as the mountain meadows and ridge lines, and this trip samples richly from these special places. Like all of the Discovery Voyages, these are guided activities. Kayaking in serene waters and around radiant blue icebergs is a thrilling experience favored by all guests. In addition to some energetic exploration, wildlife viewing, sightseeing, and visits to our favorite locations are also included.
Photo Voyage
Guided by professional photographer Hugh Rose, this voyage is designed specifically for the photographer who always wants to linger a little longer than the rest of the group. Days activities focus on photographing in Prince William Sound's magical fjordland! Over the years in the Sound, Hugh has cultivated a healthy list of "favorite places" that hold a special beauty at certain times of the day. It is these areas, along with other spontaneous encounters, that are the focus of this voyage. Any photo enthusiast is welcome, no advanced photography skills necessary.
Whale Watching Voyage
The "Whale Watching Voyage" focuses on observation and photography of Killer and Humpback whales, and other marine life like Dall porpoises, sea otters and sea lions. Occasionally, other species of whales are sighted. The seasonal food resources in the Sound influence whale presence and activity, and this voyage accesses regions in the Sound that are common feeding grounds for these magnificent mammals. Plenty of time is made for shore side visits, kayaking forays, photography, sightseeing and glacier viewing as well.
On all our voyages... fine dining on the Discovery.
